Race Day, Long Beach
Saturday, April 17th, 2004

The afternoon started with a tiny bit of drizzle and a whole lot of promise for wind. The forecast called for afternoon clearing and you could see blue sky in the west. Did I mention that there was wind in the forecast as well? In fact, it was 14-16kts during the 12:30 skippers meeting and we were all getting excited - there was going to be plenty of wind for racing this afternoon.
By 1:30 pm all were ready and we started racing. Peter B, who by the way, placed in the top 7 in the 1984 Olympics and in the top 10 in the Worlds that year, showed us we need to pay attention to him on the race course by winning the first race. We banged out two more then took a break in the sunshine and had a little snack. As we were resting, the wind wasn't; as it built to 16-20kts. Off we went in the land of higher wind racing where Eric showed us that all that time he spent in the SF bay last year didn't go to waste. He promised to return later this year for a rematch and maybe bring some of his new playmates from the Bay.
So after 6 races we called it a day. It was only 4:30 and still blowing in the high teens to low twenties, sand flying everywhere - a great race day. Race Results
