Punta San Carlos 2008
Punta San Carlos part 1, September 2008, by Alex Koutzoukis:
I went to Punta San Carlos this weekend which is a world class wavesailing spot 275 miles south of Tijuana. When I first got there on Thursday, I was on a 4.2 wound with nice size waves. The rest of the time I sailed 4.7 and 5.0 with my 85 liter wave board. Kiters were on 6-7 meter kites most of the time.

I went with Ron the Cabrillo Beach KA Rep, and we mostly windsurfed at the Beach Break although I did a downwinder to the Chili Bowl which is a much faster wave. When you go deep, the wind is almost completely shut off, which is pretty good for waveriding but hard to get back out.
The drive from TJ to PSC went smooth, with the exception of getting slightly lost in Tijuana. We took a wrong turn and ended up in the most sketchy part of town with 6 homies waving at us to come over to them. lol. After that, the drive went fast and we were down to PSC in about 7 hours.

What's up guys-
On Aug 29th, Josh Sampiero, Wyatt Miller, Russ (worked retail with me at Isthmus), Ingrid (a gorge sailor), and I took off from LA at 5:30am for Punta San Carlos. It is roughly 438 miles door to PSC, in case anyone was wondering exactly how far down there it is from LA. The drive is long, yes, and potentially dangerous I suppose, but c'mon, I'm an immature punk little kid and I figured out how to make it down there in one piece, what are all you responsible adults worried about?!?!

Anyways, if you can stand camping in the dirt, bringing in all your essentials, showering maybe every couple days, maybe with fresh water but more likely in the ocean, but want to sail what is known as one of the top wavesailing spots in the world, it's only a 10 hour drive away! On top of that, the wave there is so mellow that there are almost no consequences of wiping out. It has breaks perfect for first- time wavesailors, and also spots for those wanted to push it to the next level. For those who can't deal with dry-camping, Solo Sports is a fantastic setup with everything taken care of for you, they'll even fly ya in. You can book with them directly, or also through Vela...
