October 15, 2005 - Vagis Trip Journal 3
By Gabor Vagi
Hello everybody from the narrows of Gibraltar, on the ferry between Africa and Spain, overcast from the morning rain and gorgeous white caps from the clearing wind. Ooops, did I say wind? I almost forgot the word... it's been 5 days without it (we left Tarifa 5 days ago to Morocco after two ass-kicking
30kns+ overpowering days) So 5 days of sucking in culture or rather
30kns+ poverty
and smog. I could not handle it any more but Tundi had to see it. I could say imagine it like being in a friendly version of Tijuana over a 1000 miles trip. Of course certainly worth to see it once. If nothing else just for reality check, so you fellow Americans appreciate what we have and it isn't the wealth but rather the life style, freedom (physical, religious, knowledge etc) opportunities and choices. But this subject is something we could discuss over a dinner (a looooong dinner) and not in a short email.
However there are two books I highly recommend (in case there is no wind or your spouse still do want to come and see Marocco) both by Dan Brown: Angels and Demons, The Da Vinci Code (please do not think I recommend these for the thrill of it only. There is much more substance in them!)
And there is a third one The Glass Castle a real life story by What an appropriate three books for this trip (and endorsed/recommended by my girlfriend of life, Tundi) So heading back to Spain to the current time (I almost forgot that too the 21st century)....
Miss you all, wish you were here...Gabor and Tundi
