Dude, Where's My Board?
Summer, 2004

I'd been sailing at Lake Isabella, & had a good time because the water was smooth, the wind about 15, & I'd been using my Go 165 & an 8.4 Diablo. It was getting dark, so I park the board in shallow water and start de-rigging the sail, drying off, etc.. I usually pull the board (in this case, small boat!) up on the beach, but I'm in a hurry. The de-rigging takes a while, because I'm in a hurry, so it's about dark when I turn around to get my board and it's GONE!! I mean gone, nowhere in sight. I start up the beach towards the jet ski crowd to tell them my dilemma, but the first guy has his ski all apart, not running, so I continue up the beach another 300 yards and find a guy who starts looking for the board. It's dark by the time he get's back, and it's a no-go.....no Go 165, anyway. I decide to drive North to the Ghetto [next launch downwind - ed.], and lo & behold, there's my board, snagged by a couple of people I'd seen sailing earlier, they almost ran over it! I was sure happy they'd found it!
